Zurich Airport (LSZH) - Jet Charter Services

Zurich Airport is on many of the “world’s best airports” lists.

And for good reason.

It’s a state of the art facility in one of the world’s most beautiful places.

Zurich Airport (ZRH, ICAO: LSZH) came in among the Top 10 airports in a recent poll done, using responses on almost 14 million questionnaires, by Skytrax, a research and consultancy firm in the United Kingdom.

The company does research for airlines that pay for it but its customer surveys are taken independently with no charges to customers or airports. Then Skytrax gives awards to the top vote-getters.

In 2018, the survey included 550 airports around the world. Zurich came in Number 9 overall but was voted Number 1 in its passenger level category of 20 million to 30 million a year.

Zurich Airport came in at Number 7 in another recent poll of international airports in Travel + Leisure magazine. The grades were given, the magazine reported, after readers were asked to grade airports on things such as access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping and design.

And, with 50,000 reviews as its database, eDreams, one of the world’s largest online travel companies, placed Zurich at Number 2 – behind perennial front-runner Singapore Changi – in its list of the Top 5 best airports to visit in 2018. Its comfort, organization and efficiency – not to mention its beautiful surroundings – were given high marks by its users.

For the luxury traveler

With such a high approval rating for commercial travelers, it goes without saying that A-list travelers who charter a private jet to Zurich or rent a private jet in Zurich, will get the best gold-plated service possible.

Perhaps that’s why two of the most important and elite annual events in the world are held near Zurich.

The World Economic Forum is held every year during the third week in January in Davos, which is located in the Swiss Alps about two hours southeast of Zurich. At 5,118 feet, it is Europe’s highest city and an appropriate gathering place for the more that 2,500 of the world’s loftiest people in business, government and society. They meet to discuss major global issues and crises and to brainstorm ways to solve them.

They also fill the skies over Zurich with private jets. It was reported that during the 2018 Forum, more than 550 private and chartered business jets dropped off hundreds and hundreds of billionaires and celebrities. But Zurich was able to handle the increase in air traffic. The sky was also abuzz with private helicopters, the preferred means by which many of the “world’s 1 percent” arrived at the Forum. Who were these ultra rich and important people? There were dozens of world leaders as well as billionaire executives from companies like Microsoft (Bill Gates), Google (Eric Schmidt), Alibaba (Jack Ma), Facebook (Sheryl Sandberg), Yahoo (Marissa Mayer) and Business Insider (Henry Blodget).

It costs about $100,000 to attend what is considered the ultimate networking event where top business deals get done.

The other elite event that fills the skies over Zurich with private jets is Art Basel Switzerland.

Art Basel Switzerland

Art Basel Switzerland

Art Basel is an international art fair held every year in the Swiss city of the same name that is located an hour west of Zurich on the Rhine River where Switzerland, Germany and France meet.

Since the first Art Basel in 1970, the goal has been to connect the world’s major galleries with their patrons. Many of the artists and art dealers put more work into Art Basel than any other art fair because it draws the most serious – and monied – international clients and collectors, many of whom charter private jets to ZRH.

The growing popularity of Art Basel, which allows visitors to see and buy works from the galleries of many countries in one stop, is reflected in its growth. It has gotten bigger every year, having grown from 90 exhibiting galleries from 10 countries to 300 galleries from more than 20 countries. Attendance has skyrocketed from 16,000 to almost 100,000. That’s a lot of passengers for private and rented business jets.

Even if not attending one of the famous events, elite travelers fly in on private jets just to see the beauty of Zurich or, of course, to ski in the Alps.

Four FBOs at ZRH

Zurich Airport, also known as Zurich Kloten Airport, is the largest international airport of Switzerland. It is located eight miles north of the center of Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city. Zurich Kloten Airport (ZRH) is the hub for business and financial dealings in Zurich and surrounding cities such as Baden, Luzern, Winterthur and Zug. And, besides the kudos and awards it gets from commercial travelers, it is also a top-rated general aviation airport with four fixed-base operators to service privately owned or chartered business jets. All operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provide immigration and customs.

Everything Swiss

No matter the reason for travelling to Zurich – the best way to get there is to charter a private business jet into ZRH – one must experience all things Swiss. There are the financial forums and the skiing, but there is much more. The famous Swiss.

The Swiss of Swiss cheese, Swiss chocolate and Swiss banks.

Swiss cheese

What is its origin and why does it have holes in it?

Many of us love Swiss cheese for its famous holes but, among the more than 450 varieties of Swiss cheese, many kinds have no holes at all. Emmentaler is the distinctive holey cheese and is the most exported Swiss cheese, with Le Gruyère a close second.

About half the milk produced in Switzerland is turned into cheese, according to thelocal.com.

Switzerland exports about a third of the cheese it makes, customizing it to the preference of its customer countries. According to Switzerland Cheese Marketing, Italians like plenty of holes while the French prefer it sans trous.

Germany, according to thelocal.com, buys just under half of all Swiss cheese exports. Italy takes 16 percent; the United States buys 13 percent; and France takes 7 percent.

Why are there holes in Swiss cheese? The latest theory is they are made by tiny pieces of hay in the milk, which explains why the holes are disappearing. The milk is cleaner. It had been believed the holes were caused by bacteria producing carbon dioxide, which resulted in the air pockets.

By the way, the best and sweetest Swiss cheese is marked fromage d’alpage/Alpkäse. That means it was made from the milk produced in the summer months by cows taken to mountain pastures in the spring and returned in the fall. It is then made in the traditional manner right on the pasture with milk from cows whose diet consists of mountain herbs and flowers.

Swiss chocolate

The Swiss know their chocolate. With the per capital annual consumption of 25 pounds a year, they don’t really need experts to tell them what good chocolate is. Switzerland was one of the first countries to produce chocolate, according to houseofswitzerland.org.

In 1819, François-Louis Cailler opened a mechanized production facility in Corsier-sur-Vevey above Lake Geneva. Then, in 1875, Daniel Peter combined milk with chocolate, making the perfect mixture and forever linking chocolate to Switzerland. In 1879, Rodolphe Lindt created the process that made the first ever melt-in-the-mouth chocolate.

Swiss bank accounts

Why are they so famous and why do they conjure up visions of hidden wealth?

The main benefits of Swiss bank accounts, according to investopedia.com, are their low level of financial risk and high level of privacy. The Swiss economy is one of the most stable in the world and Swiss law tries to keep it that way by requiring that banks have high capital requirements and strong depositor protection. Privacy is protected by Swiss law that prohibits banks from disclosing any information regarding an account – even its existence – without the depositor’s permission. But, to make sure the deposited money isn’t dirty, Swiss anti-money-laundering regulations require depositors to provide proof about the origin of the funds being placed in an account.
